Outstanding Commitment
Overview
This report provides an accurate summary of outstanding non-payroll commitment balances. Data populates using the Sponsored Revenue and Expense Detail – Multiple Periods report from Analysis. The report is run by reference document number for all commitments since SAP inception (1/1/2007).
1. Header Section
The Header Section provides identifying information about the Sponsored Program from SAP Grant Master Data such as:
2. Transaction Columns
A. Sponsored Class
- First column on the Outstanding Commitment report
- High level group that combines similar G/L accounts
- Total for “class” ties to the sponsored summary “current period” column
B. G/L Account
- Second column on the Outstanding Commitment report
- Like GL Accounts are grouped together as a “class”
C. Reference Doc #
- Third column on the Outstanding Commitment report
- ADD DETAIL INFO (TBD)
- FI Document # | Type Reference sheet
D. Item Text
- Fourth column on the Outstanding Commitment report
- Field shows text describing the commitment. This text is used by users to determine the specific nature of the commitment.
E. Posting Date
- Fifth column on the Outstanding Commitment report
- Use this column to look for commitments from a previous fiscal year. If these are no longer valid, have your department budget analyst clear them.
- Clearing commitments that are no longer valid increases your available balance
F. Commitment Amount
- Sixth column on the Outstanding Commitment report
- In the example, we see outstanding commitments of $50 for Other Expenses (Training), and $905.16 for Domestic Travel
3. Sub-Report Subtotals
The example below shows how to reconcile the summary report to the outstanding commitment report by comparing the summarized totals from the commitment report to the commitment balances on the summary report.

This report has omitted several items to provide the user with pertinent data elements to properly reconcile the non-payroll transactions.
