Salary Commitment

Overview

The salary commitment report displays salary commitments by person with the months that they will be paid. A PI can quickly look and see who is being paid on the account. In the example above, there are three people being paid on this sponsored program, and all three will be paid through June, 2017.

What is included?

  • Future salary commitments by employee (as of month close)

What is excluded?

  • Fringe detail
  • E-Form processed after the E-Form cutoff before month-end close

1. Header Section

The Header Section provides identifying information about the Sponsored Program from SAP Grant Master Data such as:

2. Salary Commitment Columns

A. Employee

  • First column on the Salary report
  • Sorted by last name

B. G/L Account

  • Second column on the Salary report
  • Description of type of salary, for example admin and faculty

C. Commitment Start

  • Third column on the Salary report
  • Commitment start: Period and Fiscal Year that the employee will begin being paid on this budget

D. Commitment End

  • Fourth column on the Salary report
  • Commitment end: Period and Fiscal Year that the employee will end being paid on this budget

E. Commitment Amount

  • Fifth column on the Salary report
  • This represents actual commitments for future payroll expenses. Commitments allow JHU to report expenses awaiting payment based on actual SAP documents.

3. Sub-Report Subtotals

The example below reconciles the summary report with the salary commitment report and provides detail.

Total Commitments provides the totals of all salaries committed through the end of the Budget End Date. Sometimes new employees are allocated, people are taken off, or the allocation amount is increased or decreased. In these cases Total Commitments will not match commitments for Salaries & Wages from the Sponsored PI Summary Report.
